Summer Sessions, Study Abroad & Lifelong Learning (SSALL) is a vibrant and dynamic organization that enables more than 15,000 visiting, UC and potential Cal students; parents, faculty, academic units, international business partners, and central campus service providers to participate in providing more than 600 summer courses, study abroad experiences, global internships, and year-around program of courses, lectures, special events and interest circles for older adults. Involves a wide range of student services duties and program support responsibilities for an academic department or organization. Provides assistance to the Associate Director of Study Abroad and PReCollegiate Programs, the Operations Manager, program coordinators, faculty, and students in general program operations, advising, recruitment, admissions, financial aid, student orientation and events.
Applies professional Student Services concepts in providing a variety of student services to the student population served by the organization, and to faculty and management within that organization. Provides operational and logistical support across programs globally, including budgets, invoices, reimbursements, travel arrangements, and general data reporting and tracking.
Academic Advising: Provides advice and assistance to students on academic study abroad program requirements; assists students in determining alternative academic options, resolve scheduling conflicts, and similar issues.
Recruitment and Admissions: Implements outreach programs; advises prospective applicants on necessary academic preparation; appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals; manages program application and enrollment processes.
Financial Aid: Participates in the processing and tracking of vendor and overseas partner invoices and other program related payments through Berkeley's Bearbuy system. Create and track travel reimbursement reports for program faculty and staff through the university's travel reporting system. Advise students on refund and cancellation policies for various study abroad programs.
Scheduling: Manages calendars and makes complex international travel arrangements for program's faculty and staff.
Events: Coordinates, designs and implements non-complex student events and assists in the planning and implementation of complex events such as Study Abroad orientations, Study Abroad fairs, Caltopia, and Cal Day.
Manages study abroad student files, program applications, admission decisions, petitions, databases and records.Knowledge/Skills: • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. • Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and pertinent databases. • Knowledge of University processes and procedures. • Ability in problem identification and reasoning. • Strong interpersonal communication skills including multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations. • Highly developed organizational skills including the ability to multi-task in a high volume work environment. Knowledge of business practices in a public university system • Knowledge of UC Berkeley Financial Information Systems preferred • Knowledge of financial information systems • Demonstrated proficiency with common Microsoft Office Productivity software including Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint Education/Training: • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
