Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Access Services Library technician supports the mission and goals of the library by providing exceptional, high-quality service to visitors whether in-person or virtually using multiple, complex, online library systems. The technician performs functions including circulation and reserve services, interlibrary loan and document delivery services, invoicing and collection of fees and charges related to library lending and borrowing, training and supervising students, maintaining collection organization to facilitate discovery of scholarly materials, and technical support for visitors' using library technologies. The technician participates in library projects and works collaboratively to ensure continuous and high quality services.
Maintains library income accounts for library circulation and interlibrary transactions. Produces, processes and tracks invoices both receivable and payable for costs. Keeps records. Manages communication with users and libraries for overdue accounts and transactions.
Provides quality customer service to library visitors as the first and primary point of contact at the main library service desk; assesses users' needs and interprets and applies policies following established procedures.
Supervises, trains, supports, and delegates tasks to student desk attendants to ensure professional, consistent and quality service to library patrons.
Provides tier one technical support for library visitors; analyzes and resolves library user's issues regarding campus network, building computing hardware, software and peripherals. Creates a positive customer experience ensuring timely resolution or escalation when problem is beyond scope of training and ability. Works with computing specialist to resolve on-going computing concerns.
Works in a collaborative, team based environment to achieve shared goals and ensure continuous and seamless functions in library public service operations. Processes interlibrary loan lending and borrowing requests; Processes course reserves; Assists with maintaining organization of print and media collections.
Maintains awareness of current trends in library support and user services and remains open and flexible in learning new technologies as needed.
Required qualification include demonstrated experience and ability in the following areas: use of technology in an academic, library or office environment, organizational skills, research skills and interpersonal skills.
