The University of Pikeville (UPIKE), the Leading University in Central Appalachia, is currently seeking a creative, skilled, and service-oriented colleague for the position of Digital Outreach and Instruction Librarian. This position focuses on providing access to both print and electronic resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide reference services to students and faculty, both on and off campus, participating in an active instructional program.
Develop information literacy initiatives and assessment tools for both on-campus and distance learning students.
Outreach to off-campus students, faculty and academic departments is an essential component of this position.
Responsible for assisting in planning, implementing, and publicizing library services in innovative ways.
Participate in collection development, updating and maintaining some of the library’s social media outlets (blog, Facebook page, etc.) and serving on library and college committees.
Due to the rapidly changing environment of the information world, the successful candidate will need to be flexible, willing to explore new areas and learn new skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Must have an ALA-accredited MLS, MLIS, or equivalent degree.
Must be able to work some evening and weekend hours.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
One to three years of experience in reference and/or instruction in an academic library setting.
The ability to manage a diverse workload and to work effectively in a collegial setting including university, library or consortia committee responsibilities and continued professional development.
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential.
The ability to create online tutorials and provide virtual assistance to off campus students.
Experience in information literacy instruction in the library, the classroom, and online.
Experience with maintaining and creating LibGuides, maintaining social media sites and other electronic resources.
A knowledge of and enthusiasm for the integration of new technologies into the delivery of information services including an understanding of popular and emerging instructional design tools and techniques.
Experience with Camtasia or a similar program.
Knowledge of basic design principles for online education.
Familiarity with learning management systems and the Sierra library system is a plus.
