California State University San Marcos’s Art, Media and Design department seeks a part-time lecturer to teach VSAR 433 - Story Writing for Media in Spring 2018. The course meets on Thursdays, 4:00 pm - 6:50 pm. The candidate should have experience teaching in higher education, and demonstrate an understanding of screenwriting for short and feature length film and video. Potential applicants should understand and be able to convey essential aspects of narrative storytelling, presentation, and collaboration for projects in film, television, video, apps, and other media projects. Course work includes explorations of structure, conflict, action, archetype, character, theme, plot, and dialogue. Beyond narrative filmmaking, a successful candidate should also have some experience in avant-garde/ experimental work.
BFA or BA and 3-5 years of experience in writing for video and film or equivalent experience.
Experience teaching in higher education.
MFA or PhD and 5 or more years of writing and film and video work including professional work in the field and/or recommendations.
Ability to teach essential aspects of narrative storytelling, presentation, and collaboration for projects in film, television, video, apps, and other media projects.
Experience in avant-garde/ experimental work.
Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.
