To manage all centers, programs, and projects related to adult literacy, adult education and workforce education; to oversee the strategic planning process for The Literacy Institute; and to provide organization leadership to The Literacy Institute and its centers, programs and projects in collaboration with the other Co-Director.
Provide management and oversight to all adult education, adult literacy and workforce education grants and contracts:
Provide leadership, supervision and managerial oversight for staff;
Develop budgets, monitor finances and approve financial reports;
Manage programmatic activities across multiple programs and projects;
Oversee the development and implementation of action plans, timelines and program evaluation;
Identify and apply for funding related to adult education, adult literacy and workforce education projects;
Develop and maintain relationships with partnering agencies, institutions and researchers, local officials, boards, funders, clients and other stakeholders with an interest in adult education, adult literacy and/or workforce education.
Positions specific responsibility: oversee the Institute's strategic planning process.
In collaboration with the other Co-Director, carry out the following overarching leadership responsibilities for The Institute:
Work with The Institute's advisory board to identify and implement strategies to expand the funding base, create new projects, and improve and expand existing programs;
Oversee the implementation of The Literacy Institute's strategic plan and ensure appropriate coordination of policies and procedures;
Identify and implement effective resource sharing (funds, staff, materials, facilities) across multiple programs.
Master's degree in adult literacy, adult education or other related field required.
Extensive experience managing grant-funded projects and programs, including demonstrated success in writing funding proposals and developing budgets for federal, state, local and private funding applications;
Extensive experience providing financial management for multiple projects with annual budgets of over $1 million;
Working knowledge of the rules, regulations and laws governing federal, state, local and private grants and contracts;
Extensive experience managing staff of all levels from managerial to entry-level;
Extensive experience managing adult literacy/adult education and professional development programs;
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strategic partnerships;
Demonstrated ability to design and implement programs and projects with proven results;
Demonstrated ability to oversee the strategic planning process and successfully implement a plan once developed; and
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
A doctoral degree in child development, reading, education, psychology, or other related field;
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strategic partnerships and effectively engage and collaborate with community organizations and resources;
Demonstrated ability to design and implement programs and projects with proven results; and
Demonstrated ability to oversee the strategic planning process and successfully implement a plan once developed.
