The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra seeks a qualified applicant to fulfill the role of Staff Conductor to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO). Guided by the artistic vision of Music Director Manfred Honeck, the PSO offers programming brands including Mellon Grand Classics, PNC Pops, FUSE, and Education/Community Engagement. The staff conductor works closely with the Music Director, guest conductors, musicians and relevant staff members to maintain the artistic excellence of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra throughout this wide range of programming.
Works closely with the Music Director and act as cover conductor for subscription concerts, rehearsals and performances as assigned. Coverage of Mellon Grand Classics concerts to include being present at all covered services, advising conductor on musical matters as requested, and being prepared to conduct any covered rehearsals or performances. Coverage of PNC Pops subscription concerts to include being present at all rehearsals and the first performance of each series, and being in Pittsburgh and available by telephone for all remaining concerts in each series.
Work collaboratively with PSO staff and artistic team to conceive, program, and rehearse and conduct Learning and Community Engagement concerts, parks concerts, PNC Pops subscriptions, side-by-side concerts, popular specials, and other concerts as assigned.
Speak at pre-concert lectures for covered concerts, and other public events.
Complete artistic review and provide broadcast approval for all covered subscription concerts.
Review scores and recordings of works submitted by composers and report on these materials to the Music Director and/or Vice President of Artistic Planning.
Serve as community ambassador for the Pittsburgh Symphony. Participate in community outreach programs at schools and in the community.

Advanced studies in music
