The Director of Clinical Pharmacy provides leadership and direction for Clinical Pharmacy Services across the Western Division of Steward Health Care System. The National Senior Director is responsible for the overall performance of clinical pharmacy activities which include Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Oncology, Hematology and Immunological Committees and pharmaceutical care activities. He/she coaches and mentors pharmacy directors, clinical coordinators and pharmacists at each facility in the delivery of pharmaceutical care. In collaboration with the facilities, ensures that the hospitals provide optimal and cost effective medication therapy to Steward’s patients. Actively participates in ensuring that the System complies with hospital, state and Joint Commission policies and standards
Overseas standardized clinical pharmacy programs.
Evaluates current clinical pharmacy services and identifies, develops, and implements ways to improve performance.
Provides guidance and oversight for utilization of cost effective Oncology, Hematology and Immunological therapies.
Evaluates medication use patterns and identifies opportunities for optimizing the economic utilization of medications. Develops protocols and guidelines as necessary.
Assures and oversees implementation of medication initiatives at all sites.
Develops and implements clinical pharmacy processes in cooperation with site directors.
In conjunction with the medical staff, assures Steward is providing effective cost efficient clinical pharmacy services.
Works with the National Senior Clinical Director to oversee the Steward Healthcare Drug Formulary in conjunction with the Steward System Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committees.
Provides supporting documentation to facilitate P&T discussions and decisions. (SBAR format preferred)
Participates in developing a system clinical pharmacy dashboard to track monthly performance on key indicators.
Oversees pharmacist staff education and competency. Prepares and coordinates implementation of pharmacy staff competencies.
Cultivates a culture of safety, accountability and fosters opportunities for pharmacy staff development
Serves on various committees and planning groups as requested or required.
Facilitates review of system Adverse Drug Event (ADE) / Adverse Drug Review (ADR) reports to identify trends, prescribing changes and process improvement.
Collaboration with clinical leadership to develop drug use initiatives and assure appropriate use of pharmaceuticals. He/she will be responsible for the execution and consistent implementation of drug use initiatives and care management initiatives.
I. Education: Graduate from an accredited College of Pharmacy; Advanced Professional degree (e.g. Master of Science, or PharmD, or PhD)
II. Experience:10 years’ experience in hospital or health care multi hospital system pharmacy leadership. Residency trained preferred.
III. Certification/Licensure: Pharmacist License, in good standing with a Board of Pharmacy
IV. Software/Hardware: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access preferred
