A Bachelor's degree is required from an accredited college or university, as well as at least three years of general communication experience. The position requires strong public relation skills and the ability to establish rapport with adults and adolescents. Exceptional graphic design and technical skills, good customer service skills, strong collaboration skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills, are a must. Must have experience with college access, particularly with GEAR UP or TRIO programs. A highly organized individual able to multitask and who is detail oriented is extremely desirable.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Resource and Communication Coordinator is responsible for developing college access and educational and informational resources and communication identified and approved in the NC Appalachian GEAR UP Partnership grants. This position requires a strong foundational knowledge of college access and readiness best practices and serves as an educator to other professionals responsible for providing services to GEAR UP students served by the grant. The position requires strong teamwork and collaboration skills and an understanding of individual school district needs and will work to actively seek new opportunities, partnerships, and services that can help meet those needs. In addition, this position will:
Develop and promote online materials and informational resources including a monthly newsletter.
Determine grant-wide needs and propose/create programmatic initiatives & services that help meet those needs.
Collect, develop, and distribute college access resources which can be applied, executed, and referenced in GEAR UP target schools and families.
Assist as needed with the delivery of direct student services such as summer camps, parent/student workshops, etc.

Strongly prefer at least four years of program implementation experience involving college access, readiness, and success support to students and school administrators including knowledge of post-secondary education requirements, financial aid, and college match and fit. Strongly prefer at least 3 years of communication experience. Knowledge of leading edge educational and communication platforms and software necessary.

Work Schedule/Hours: Mon-Fri, 8:00am -5:00 pm; some night and weekend work required.
