Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Department of Pediatrics at Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Licensed Practical Nurse, in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, and under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides focused, episodic care to patients. This care encompasses health promotion, health maintenance, or management of health-related problems that is delivered in face-to-face or telephone encounters. Additional responsibilities include administering pulmonary function testing (PFT) for pediatric patients on an as needed basis in multiple clinical sites within the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School practice.
Provides and documents nursing care within the scope of practice for a specific Rutgers Health patient, group, or population in face-to-face and telephone encounters.
Provides input to the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient's status to the Registered Nurse and other members of the healthcare team as appropriate and in a timely manner.
Coordinates various aspects of the daily schedule pertaining to patient procedures, outpatient office visits and consultations.
Delegates, directs and supervises the activities of Rutgers Health unlicensed assistive personnel.
Engages in continuing education to attain knowledge and competency that reflects the current state of ambulatory care nursing practice and will enable Licensed Practical Nurses to contribute to the fulfillment of the Rutgers Health mission as it relates to the delivery of quality healthcare.
Actively engages in Rutgers Health organizational initiatives that create and maintain an internal environment that is safe, hazard free, confidential, and comfortable for patients, family members/caregivers, and staff.
Optimizes use of time by efficiently using tools, resources, systems, and prioritization in consultation with the registered nurse to facilitate patient access and flow for effective and efficient Rutgers Health clinical operations.
Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Licensed Practical Nurse Licensure in the State of New Jersey.
At least one year of relevant clinical experience in a pediatric subspecialty acute care practice.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to function in a team environment.
Basic computer skills.
LPN trained to administer Pulmonary Function Testing.
At least one year experience with electronic medical records.

Physical Demands: Position requires standing, walking, sitting, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time; reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: Moderate noise with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste
