The University of Maryland Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a Part-Time Senior Counselor to be work in the Center for Infant Study . The Senior Counselor will be an embedded mental health team leader in guiding an Early Head Start program into becoming a replication/demonstration site for a unique trauma focused attachment based intervention for very young children and their families. In so doing, the Senior Counselor will provide clinical services, programmatic support and training, and reflective supervision to staff and interns. The Senior Counselor works independently with families to help them to manage and overcome a range of psychological and emotional issues. With the family as a participant, current senior counselors use individualized treatment plans and a variety evidence-based practices and programs to help process and address feelings, and behaviors; assists with helping children and their families to achieve social-emotional-behavioral success and wellbeing. The senior counselor will provide training, consultation, supervision, and support to Early Head Start staff, interns, undergraduate and graduate students. The Senior Counselor will also work collaboratively with the Early Head Start grantee and delegate agency and Replication Specialists to develop and support effective programing for children and their families.

The Senior Counselor is a part time position, 60% or three days a week.
Assess risk by screening and interviewing clients. Identify psychosocial condition and needs, and determine best course of therapeutic treatment.
Evaluate, refer, and counsel individuals, couples, or groups to assess needs and address issues.
Development of treatment plans and healthcare evaluations for a variety client issues.
Document client(s) progress. Perform chart reviews and generates notes on evaluations, therapy sessions, reports and other accountability measures.
Provide training, guidance, and support to colleagues who are not fully licensed as mental health providers (e.g., LGSW/LGPC, graduate trainees).
Assist in development of policies, protocols, or procedures as requested.
May be responsible for review and submission of authorized documentation for reimbursement per licensure
May supervise other counselors, interns, students, or employees per licensure.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Master's degree in Social Work or Psychology. Experience: One (1) year of post-licensure experience in related area of treatment such as Pediatric and/or Family Therapy including responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others. Licensure/Certification: Licensed as Certified Social Work - Clinical (LCSW-C) in the State of Maryland or Licensed as Licensed Certified professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Maryland

Ability to effectively interact with a diverse client population using best practice clinical techniques and consultative approaches.

Hiring Range for this position is in the low 30s at 60% (mid 50s at full-time), commensurate with Education and Experience.
