Rosalind Franklin University Health System is seeking to fill a full-time Patient Financial Services Counselor. The Patient Financial Services Counselor is responsible for gathering charge information, coding, entering charges and payments into billing software, resolving outstanding balances with patients and third party payers to bring resolution to accounts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Research all information needed to complete billing process including getting charge information from physicians. • Key charge information into online entry program and produces billing. • Process and distributes copies of billings according to procedures/policies. • Prepare bank deposit; record deposits; duplicate checks for entry into billing system. • Work with patients, physicians, other staff and insurance carriers to follow-up on accounts until zero balance or turned over for collection. • Assist with coding and error resolution. • Fulfill organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include: respecting/promoting patient rights as relates to patient financial responsibility; responding appropriately to queries regarding patient accounts; sharing problems relating to patient financial services with immediate supervisor(s) quickly. • Perform other related duties as assigned or delegated.
Required Education & Experience
• High school diploma or GED Equivalent. • Two years medical billing and coding experience. • Must achieve a background check clearance.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of health care billing/coding practices, regulations, and laws. • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients/families, physicians and payers. • Skill in performing tasks appropriately. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions. • Ability to work/interact with diverse populations; show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences. • Skill in using computer programs and calculator. Ability to understand and interpret policies and regulations. • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image. • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks. • Ability to examine documents for accuracy.
• Certification from a nationally recognized medical billing and coding certifying agency.
