Under general supervision, provide professional nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. This includes physiological, psychological, and developmental differences unique to each group. Under direct supervision of a pharmacist, may work in a clinic admixture room, performing the technical and nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation.
Monitor and chart patient's lab values, interpret values to proceed with treatment.
Ability to access peripheral veins; assessment for appropriate site, aseptic technique, Standard Precautions observed.
Ability to access, utilize, and care for Central Venous Access Device per guidelines and ability to perform phlebotomies per guidelines.
Ability to use infusion pump, CADD pump and other related equipment.
Monitor patient during administration of drugs, observing for possible adverse reactions, responding appropriately to Hypersensitivity Reactions and completion of Hypersensitivity Reaction Report as needed.
Provide comprehensive patient/family teaching material, both verbally and written. Refer patients/family to appropriate resources, and be able to interact with all the appropriate members of the patient care team to communicate and coordinate patient care.
Accurate and timely documentation of chemotherapy administration and other medications administration in EPIC, and accurate charging of drug administrative charges in EPIC.
Responsible for the verification of necessary precertification before administering chemotherapy/treatment.
Participate in continuing education activities, attend department and staff meetings
Perform other duties that correspond to the overall functions of this position.
Licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
Current CPR (Healthcare Provider).
Experience and knowledge of the purpose and use of medications in the treatment of cancer.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Oncology certification preferred.
Three years nursing experience in an oncology environment preferred.
