The Palm Valley School is located in Rancho Mirage, CA, in the heart of the beautiful Coachella Valley. We are a college-preparatory school that serves around 400 students in Preschool through Grade 12. The Palm Valley School is the only CAIS/NAIS Independent School in the Coachella Valley. We are seeking a full time Sciences teacher for grades 6-12 for the 2018-19 school year. Teaching assignment would be tailored for the candidates areas of expertise within the department. As part of a full time teaching load, teachers are expected to serve as an Advisor for a grade level in our Advisory program. Our Sciences department consists of 3 full-time Faculty members and each have access to specialized science classroom facilities, fully equipped lab areas, has access to use technology labs, and our SmartLab with a 3-D printer, 3D-AR Sandbox, and other specified makerspace/tinkerlab equipment for use as needed. Each classroom is fully outfitted with appropriate technology as requested for curriculum needs. Opportunities for Outdoor Learning are also extensive as our school has 34 acres of campus, that includes several gardens, and opportunities for more. We also take Outdoor Education trips throughout the year to allow students opportunity to utilize their Science curriculum in the real world.
Qualified candidates would hold a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in a related field, have a minimum of three (3) years experiences teaching in a related area, and be familiar with teaching within a PBL/Inquiry based model and/or in an AP format for Upper Division courses. Ideal candidates would be lifelong learners and innovative educators who are experts their content area(s), willing to fully embrace technology integration, passionate about Outdoor Education, be knowledgeable about inquiry-based or experiential design theory (Design Thinking, PBL, etc.) and/or the Maker Space/Tinker Lab movement, enjoy collaborating with students and colleagues, be a strong communicator, and have a strong understanding of the developmental needs and differences between students in grades 6-12.
