The Employment Consultant position provides Human Resources consultation to Academic Affairs campus units on SHRA recruitment, employment, layoff, and related policy compliance and HR best practices. This position will also provide consultation in EHRA-NF recruitment. Position works within a team of Employment Consultants in the University's central Office of Human Resources to serve the campus. Specifically, this position takes direction from the HR Consultant/Advanced, Lead Employment Consultant. Primary duties of the Employment Consultant are: consults with all levels of leadership within assigned departments to understand departmental missions and deliver services to help departments accomplish their goals and objectives in employing, motivating and retaining personnel; consults with department leadership to recruit and select staff, develops strategic recruitment plans and candidate selection guidelines, consults with departments regarding underutilization of minorities and females and analyzes hiring trends to ensure University EEO goals are being met; and works to understand staffing trends to identify best practices for attracting qualified candidates for difficult to fill positions; administration of SHRA staff recruitment and selection, including employment eligibility compliance and salary determination; analysis and approval of RIF/layoff requests; administration of EHRA-NF temporary and permanent recruitment and selection; evaluating unpaid volunteer, intern and visiting scholar requests, evaluating telework arrangements, attending career fairs, and consultation on targeted recruitment and advertising.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Prior Human Resources experience with demonstrated working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations. Advanced knowledge and skills with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Access. Willingness to learn new software applications/programs as required. The selected candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; must demonstrate a positive attitude; and must be able to manage multiple, ongoing priorities. Position requires accuracy, attention to detail, tact and diplomacy, and excellent consultation skills to interact with all levels of management at Schools/Divisions and University-wide. The person in this position must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment and must have prior experience in consulting on Human Resources in one or more disciplines.
Prior experience with recruiting and salary administration is preferred. Prior experience in a higher education setting is preferred, but not required. PeopleAdmin, PeopleSoft, Masters in Human Resources, PHR and/or SPHR, also preferred.
