Union/Fair share deductions may be made.</p><p><strong>Overview</strong><br />Access and Information Services (AIS) is a unit within the Health Sciences Libraries (HSL). It is a primary contact point during library business hours, and AIS personnel are often the first and sometimes the only contact users have with the Bio-Medical Library. Our goal is to provide convenient and timely access to HSL and University Libraries’ information, resources and services, and AIS responsibilities include circulation, in-person and digital information services, stacks management, and course reserves. Personnel in AIS work closely with the librarians in Education & Research Services to provide the best possible service to library users.<br /><br /><strong>Essential Functions</strong><br /><strong>Access & Information Services (12 hrs/wk = 30.0%)<br />Coordinates Full-time Staffing and Support for On-demand Information Services:</strong><br />? Develops and maintains AIS full-time staff desk schedule. Arranges for backup coverage, as needed.<br />? Partnering with a liaison librarian, coordinates library information service instruction for library staff. Training includes introducing new library resources, providing updates on existing library resources and developing staff database searching skills.<br />? Participates in system-wide digital information services coordinators group. Ensures local quality control of digital information services by reviewing transcripts and providing staff feedback and training as necessary.<br />? Develops and maintains resource and training web site for information service providers.<br />? Oversees and maintains service point statistics.<br /><strong>Provides On-demand Information Services:</strong><br />? Staffs the service desk to provide information and access services to individuals from diverse communities and cultures that require judgment and informed appraisal of the user’s needs, based on thorough working knowledge of relevant library policies, procedures, tools and facilities.<br />? Serves as front-line staff for digital information services, answering system-wide questions and making referrals as appropriate.<br />? Conducts library consultations and literature searches.<br />? Instructs users in use of digital and physical materials and in effective database search skills (e.g., beginning and advanced Boolean searching, truncation, etc.)<br />? Maintains awareness of and promotes evolving suite of specialized "researcher support" tools, policies, trends, and resources at service points.<br /><br /><strong>Provides Communications and Social Media Support (12 hrs/wk = 30.0%)<br />In coordination with the Communications Coordinator:</strong><br />? Reviews, develops, and updates content for the three Health Sciences Libraries websites (Bio-Medical Library, Veterinary Medical Library, Wangensteen Historical Library).<br />? Contributes to the Health Sciences Libraries social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, through regular postings and content development.<br />? Creates and prepares images, photographs, and video content to support communications activities.<br />? Selects and prepares content for rotating features on the Health Sciences Libraries’ and Libraries’ home pages, including featured news items, strategic initiatives content, background images, and featured resources.<br />? Identifies, writes, and publishes news stories to be incorporated into the University Libraries’ continuum publication.<br />? Prepares print and electronic marketing materials for library signage, special events, new resources, and other activities as needed.<br /><br /><strong>Provides Technical User Support and Instruction (10 hrs/wk = 25.0%)</strong><br />? Develops and maintains familiarity with the range of technology-rich spaces and services in the Bio-Medical Library, including the makerspace, tech lab, data visualization center, and productivity computers.<br />? Learns productivity software packages, including post-production video editing, digital file manipulation, data visualization, and statistical software packages, and provides instruction and consultations on their use.<br />? Assists in troubleshooting basic computer issues at public workstations.<br />? Manages inventory of library patron and staff equipment.<br /><br /><strong>Provides Support for Programs, and Departmental and Libraries Activities (6 hrs/wk = 15%)</strong><br />? Accepts and prepares requests for Digital Coursepacks, E-Reserves and print Course Reserves materials.<br />? Teaches or assists with course-integrated instruction sessions on PubMed, citation managers or other library resources.<br />? Other duties as assigned.<br /><br /> </p>
<p>Required Qualifications<br />? Five (5) years of relevant library experience. Up to three (3) years if college education can be substituted for experience<br />? Experience learning and applying new software and technologies<br />? Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service<br />? Demonstrated strong written communications skills (as evidenced by cover letter and resume)<br />? Experience creating and manipulating digital media for print and web use<br /><br />Preferred Qualifications<br />? Ability to work independently and in cooperation with colleagues and library users in a service-oriented, collaborative environment<br />? Strong interpersonal skills including commitment to fostering diversity in the workplace<br />? Strong problem-solving, multitasking, and organizational skills<br />? Knowledge of basic graphic/visual design principles and their applications to the creation of print and digital media<br />? Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or other graphic design and video editing applications<br />? Experience with web authoring and editing programs<br />? Facility with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint<br />? Experience offering library reference and research assistance<br />? Familiarity with using library resources, including online catalogs and indexes<br />?
