Information and Assistance Specialist Use your social services expertise to help older adults, people with disabilities and their caregivers access the services and resources they need to thrive as they age.
What you will do in This Role
Aging and Disability Resource Center – Information and Assistance
When receiving incoming calls at the agency, assess the needs and capacities of the individual, answer questions and/or provide information on services or community resources, which meet their expressed need.
Conduct research necessary to answer specific questions or requests
Link callers to available opportunities and services
Send appropriate materials to callers via email or postal mail as needed services.
Conduct follow-up activities, as needed, to ensure callers received the information or assistance they needed
Respond to calls, letters, emails, or office visits from older persons, people with disabilities, caregivers, public officials, and service providers related to Information and Assistance services
Provide back-up information and information coverage, as needed Other Duties:
Lead Internal Aging and Disability Resource Center Training
Database Management and Quality Assurance
Reporting & Grant Related Activities
Collaboration with other members who do Information and Assistance in monthly meetings
Supervision and Leadership
This position may directly or indirectly supervise interns who are assigned to the Benefits, Information and Education Unit.
What You Will Need for This Role:
Education and Experience
MSW or Bachelor’s degree with five years of experience in aging services, social services or related area.
Knowledge and Ability
Ability to deal effectively with clients from a wide range of backgrounds.
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of/ability to learn programs and benefits for seniors including Older Americans Act services, Medicare, and public benefits.
Knowledge of databases and office software.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Ability to make oral and written presentations to groups, organizations and public officials. Experience in public speaking and training.
