The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Akron invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant/associate professor level with expertise in at least one (and preferably more than one) of the following areas: aerospace systems, avionics, robotics, controls (Position 1); and thermal/fluid sciences and their application to energy systems, automotive, manufacturing (Position 2). Candidates must possess a doctorate in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related discipline. Rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
Applicants are expected to contribute to the core teaching, mentoring, and research missions of the department. In particular, the successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, externally-funded research program, teach core aerospace and mechanical engineering graduate- and undergraduate-level courses, develop new specialized courses, work collaboratively with diverse populations, supervise graduate research and contribute to departmental, college and university services.
The Department offers a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and an interdisciplinary Doctor of Philosophy degree in Engineering. The College also offers an Engineering Management Master’s degree in conjunction with the College of Business, and an Engineering Applied Mathematics Ph.D. degree in conjunction with the Department of Mathematics. The Department and College are host or co-host to several research centers and institutes, including the NSF CenTire Center for Tire Research, the Conquer Chiari Research Center, and the Center for Surface Engineering and Lubrication Research.
