Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Bookstore, ID Card Services, and business and financial analysis for these areas. Through these units, educational and developmental programs and services are offered to all members of the campus community including students, faculty, staff, children and external constituents.
Within CHES, the Bay Tree Bookstore is a self-supporting Auxiliary Enterprise, whose mission is to provide to the campus community books, related materials and services which complement the academic environment and which support the diverse needs of the campus community.
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, Bay Tree Bookstore, and in conjunction with the Special Operations Coordinator, the incumbent will assist with all aspects of special operations in support of: 1) student and staff identification and carding functions; and 2) activities surrounding graduation ceremony support essentials. These are disparate functions that, while overlapping operationally, have peak operational activities at different times during the academic year.
This position interfaces with a multitude of campus and public units, facilitating a critical relationship between those units and student life. Those units include but are not limited to Housing and Food Services, College Offices Academic Divisions, Admissions, Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS), Registrar, Library, Health Services, Office of Physical Education and Recreation Services (OPERS), Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District (SCMTD) and off campus vendors. Consistent support of these operations has campus wide implications.
This position is 60% of full-time, averaging 24 hours of work, per week throughout the year. Exact work hours each day to be determined.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
Must have the ability to work mandatory scheduled extra hours and/or overtime during peak periods, including but not limited to, the beginning of fall quarter, the end of spring quarter, Grad Fair, Commencement and during Summer Orientations, including weekends as needed.
Must be able to move equipment and materials, (sometimes overhead), weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.
Per the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), this position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter. The selected candidate will be required to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect as defined by CANRA and will be required to sign a Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse prior to commencing employment.
Excellent clerical experience and skills.
Excellent organization skills with the ability to prioritize a heavy workload under the pressure of completing deadlines.
Experience working as a member of a team in collaboration with colleagues, campus units and outside agencies.
Strong communication skills both verbal and written, with English proficiency.
Strong customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively and maintain a cheerful, professional demeanor with students, staff and faculty in a diverse atmosphere.
