STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Assistive Technology (AT) Coordinator provides accessibility for all college community members and all campuses through the overall management, development, coordination, and delivery of Assistive Technology services. The AT Coordinator conducts needs assessments and determines appropriate Assistive Technology for a wide range of Students with Disabilities, promotes college-wide awareness of accessibility and Universal Design; provides consultation and training and ensures compliance with appropriate federal and state mandates. The AT Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation of the Assistive Technology Lab including staff supervision, test administration and materials conversion, and maintains a student caseload of 75 to 100 students each semester.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Dean for Disability Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates learning and assistive technologies for Students with Disabilities.
Assesses individual assistive technology training and support needs of Students with Disabilities by conducting an intake and needs assessment with each student.
Identifies appropriate assistive technology hardware and/or software solutions to support student access and retention.
Maintains inventory of all assistive and adaptive technologies and projected upgrades.
Works with instructors and students to determine potential accessibility obstacles related to coursework and determine appropriate reasonable accommodations and technology to address these barriers.
Manages Alternate Format Texts requests through Learning Ally, Kurzweil and related resources and provides conversion of assessments, print materials and textbooks to alternative formats.
Designs, promotes and delivers effective training and support for the college community on Assistive Technology, Universal Design, Accessibility Compliance and relevant topics.
Serves as the liaison to the college community regarding website and electronic accessibility.
Maintains Disability Services websites and shared databases including all current information on assistive technology.
Researches, evaluates and reviews current and emerging developments in Assistive Technology and in collaboration with staff from related College and Community Resources such as Instructional Technology (IT), Library Services and the Center for Instructional Technologies Expertise (CITE),makes recommendations for acquisition of assistive technology and auxiliary aids to provide infrastructure of equal access.
Compiles statistical, retention and diagnostic reports as needed and prepares monthly and annual reports.
Liaises with area high schools and related agencies such as, Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB), Easter Seals, Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC), and Southeast Center for Independent Living regarding effective college transition for Students with Disabilities.
Participates in professional development (local, state, and national trainings, conferences as budget allows) and keeps current on best practices and legislation governing accessibility.
Monitors Assistive Technology (AT) program budget.
Provides academic advisement to students and monitors progress.
Actively participates in college service activities including committee membership.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean for Disability Services.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Counseling or related field in relevant area; three (3) years' experience in a postsecondary educational setting working with Students with Disabilities and Assistive Technology applications; demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, families, and others from diverse backgrounds; knowledge of student development theory and principles of UDL; ability to function in a consultative and collaborative manner for case management; demonstrated effective critical thinking, decision-making and problem solving skills. Must have a working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), and the Amended Acts of 2008, the Assistive Technology Act (1998), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973) and other legislation pertaining to people with a disability; understanding of and appreciation for higher education and the mission of the community college.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience working in a community college assistive technology lab setting. Advanced study or credential/certificate in Assistive Technology. Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
POSITION STATUS: This is an MCCC/MTA, full time, unit position with benefits.
STARTING DATE: December 2017
SALARY: $49,711 - $71,270 Labor Grade - 4 - actual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and in accordance with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
