STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the goals of a Health Resources Service Administration (HRSA) grant in partnership with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (UMD), as well as those of the college's Perkins grant, the Diversity Nursing Scholars (DNS) and Experiential Learning Coordinator serves as a liaison between the Greater New Bedford area, and Bristol Community College, to recruit, support and engage students from under-represented communities into the College's pathways into Nursing as well as opportunities for Experiential Learning. This position is located at the College's New Bedford Campus.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director of Pathways.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Generates new contacts through networking, social media, calls, on-site visits, and active participation in relevant external events, community and professional groups.
Collaboratively, develop student-centered marketing materials, social media, website content, spotlight testimonials, and other innovative ways to raise visibility.
Coaches and supports students and connect them to appropriate resources
Provides career support to students via referrals, individual meetings, classroom visits, mock interviews and group workshops.
Collects and maintains accurate and timely data for program effectiveness and required reports to funding agency to the Program Manager.
Contributes to program effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues communicating them appropriately.
Develops and supports relationships with all grant and community partners and employers by facilitating open channels of communication with partners, students, faculty, staff, other departments; resolving problems/complaints and/or channeling them to appropriate department for solution.
Regularly attend division, program-related meetings and provide college service.
Maintains knowledge of trends and practices in Diversity, Inclusion and Experiential Learning through peer associations, attendance at seminars, conferences, and review of literature.
Maintains an understanding of the rules and regulations of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974).
Diversity Nursing Scholars:
Facilitates and supports an inclusive process to explore and develop Holistic Admissions, and to provide financial support to Diversity Nursing Scholars students.
Collaboratively provide outreach to recruit students from the community as well as from non-credit CNA programs and undeclared students at BCC to matriculate into pathways leading to Nursing.
Provides case management and proactive advising include guidance and support through the application and financial aid process, the use of academic support resources, referrals to support resources in the city, etc. to remove barriers and ensure academic progress.
Establishes effective communication and collaboration with DNS Program Manager at UMass Dartmouth as well as supervisor.
Assists in community engagement activities to educate and recruit adults and youth about Nursing careers in collaboration with Program Manager (UMD)
Builds and maintains relationships for the Cooperative Education and Civic Engagement programs, and collaborate with both teams to grow industry and community partnerships, on and off campus, bridge employability skills, provide career education and exploration, and implement services that support students, faculty and employers, as well as track career outcomes.
Recruits and place students in matched community and on campus, workplace settings to facilitate Experiential Learning.
Engages and supports faculty members to foster instructional models aimed at Service-Learning Pedagogy and techniques, Civic Learning knowledge, skills, applications and actions, as well as, opportunities for student reflection.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Marketing, Education Administration, or other field related to area of assignment; three years' experience in academic advising, career development, health care, internships, Service and Civic Learning, program/project management, or diversity and inclusion work; experience in a college setting; reliable transportation to travel between campus/work locations; ability to work effectively with employers, faculty, staff, and student body from diverse backgrounds and areas; and strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with under-represented populations, holistic admissions or student support; familiarity with academic support retention models as well as admissions processes, experience with diversity and inclusion work, and the ability to speak a language in addition to English.
