The Zhang lab at the University of Chicago is looking for highly motivated postdoctoral fellows in neurogenetics and developmental neurobiology. The newly established Zhang group in the Department of Human Genetics focuses on the fundamental mechanisms of brain development with the ultimate goal of diagnosing and treating neurological diseases. Dr. Xiaochang Zhang's recent work uncovered critical cell-type-specific functions of alternative RNA splicing in mouse and human brain development, and identified novel coding and non-coding human mutations that cause developmental brain disorders (Zhang et al., Cell, 2016; AJHG, 2014). Our current research centers on two directions: the specification of cell types and lineages in the developing brain, and the cell-type-specific functions of RNA splicing in developmental brain disorders.
The applicant will work with Dr. Xiaochang Zhang and interact with exceptional U Chicago faculties in human genetics, RNA biology, single cell biology, biostatistics and computation biology. The Zhang laboratory is affiliated the Grossman Institute of Neuroscience, Quantitive Biology and Human Behavior, and located in the Cumming Life Science Center, with access to outstanding genetics, genomics, imaging and stem cell core facilities. Our environment offers excellent training opportunities in neuogenetics and developmental neuroscience.
