Job Summary: The Analytics Program at the University of San Francisco invites candidates to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2018. Candidates with significant and demonstrated excellence in teaching and research as well as an interest in a leadership role in the Analytics Program will be highly considered.
The MSAN program includes state of the art education in data science and bridges knowledge-to-practice through a 9-month practicum that provides students the opportunity to be mentored and solve important data science problems with companies like Under Armour, Eventbrite, Mozilla, and ZipCar. Faculty in the MSAN program are also supported by University of San Francisco’s Data Institute which exists to strengthen the connection between academia and industry; advance data science research; build and foster an inclusive data science community; and train the next generation of data scientists.
The position is open to Ph.D. graduates in the fields of analytics and data science. Areas of interest include but are not limited to applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, and operations research. Relevant research areas include applied probability, applied and theoretical statistics, statistical and machine learning, deep learning, data mining, natural language processing, distributed computing, network analysis, graphical models, and signal processing, among others. The candidate will be primarily expected to support the graduate program in analytics and data science, but duties may also include supporting the undergraduate program in data science.
Job responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in the Analytics Program, to engage in service to the program and college, as well as maintain an active research program that involves students when possible. Close interaction between students, faculty and industry is a hallmark of the Analytics Program. The position will include practicum partner recruitment as well as practicum mentoring and duties with our industry partners. As such, special consideration will be given to candidates with industry experience in the field of data science and analytics
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a field related to Analytics earned by August 2018. This position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching within a culturally diverse environment. In addition, a strong record of teaching at the university level, evidence of scholarship, and an understanding of and commitment to support the mission of the University of San Francisco are required.
