We are seeking a Director, Student & Early Career Development (SECD) to lead our team responsible for and passionate about preparing the next generation of engineers entering the workforce. SECD’s Mission is to ensure every engineering student and early career engineer has the tools, experience, and confidence to solve the complex issues facing their local and the global community. We connect, develop and inspire these individuals to tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges by using cutting-edge technologies such as big data, 3D printing, robotics, drones and the internet of things.
The Director, Student & Early Career Development has oversight for the creation, implementation and evaluation of best-in-class programming through engagement with our student community, constituents and industry actors. This role partners closely with sector leadership and volunteers on delivery of SECD activities and promotes educational awareness and advocacy. The Director is responsible for managing all other aspects of the SECD sector such as strategic planning, volunteer and member engagement, programming, marketing and budgeting. In addition, the Director identifies, initiates and strengthens relationships with customers and partners and coordinates all agencies and organizations which support our programs and grants.
This position requires a master’s degree in a related discipline (or equivalent work experience) and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in industry, academia or the nonprofit sector; a blend of these experiences is preferred. Some travel will also be required for this role. Successful candidates will have demonstrated excellence in the following skills and competencies:
Significant experience working with STEM programs and institutions, including fundraising, project execution and partnership development
Leadership of diverse teams responsible for program design, implementation and evaluation
Proven success in strategic development, business model creation, implementation and change management
Proficiency managing local, regional or national coalitions or public/private/social partnerships
Infuencing skills with a proven ability to develop and leverage relationships with multiple stakeholders, external and internal
Exceptional communication, presentation and facilitation skills
Organized approach to managing multiple, time-sensitive priorities
Agile and creative intellect, combined with an entrepreneurial, pragmatic and flexible approach to program development
A passion for connecting and mobilizing communities as well as familiarity with the techology and tools to do so
