The Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is searching for two individuals to join our team! We invite applications for two full-time, 9-month, tenure track assistant professor positions. The Department of Exercise and Sport Science has an extensive, dynamic, inclusive, and well-supported faculty. We invite you to become a member of our team to educate our outstanding students in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE). The PETE program at UW-La Crosse is nationally known for a standard-based curriculum, comprehensive clinical experiences, field experiences within a professional development school model and visionary faculty. This individual will teach in our undergraduate and graduate PETE programs. The Department of Exercise and Sport Science values diversity in our faculty and student body and is engaged in sincere efforts to be a leader in Wisconsin’s movement toward increased diversity and inclusiveness. The position will start on August 27, 2018.
Under general supervision of the department chair, persons in these positions are responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and advising students. In addition to preparing for and holding classes [face- to-face, hybrid, and/or online], teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students' work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. The individuals are expected to maintain an active, on-going program of scholarship appropriate to the discipline. In addition, these individuals will provide service to the department, college, and university and is likely expected to provide service to the community and/or the profession. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.
We are seeking candidates with expertise to teach courses in one or more of the following areas:
pedagogy/teaching methods in elementary physical education
physical education curriculum and instruction
assessment in physical education
diversity in physical education
These positions are affiliated with the School of Education, Professional, and Continuing Education (EPC) and the dean of the EPC will provide feedback regarding hiring and personnel reviews to the department. School of Education affiliated faculty are expected to be engaged in service and scholarly activities that inform and enhance the work they do with prospective teachers. Some additional work hours outside the academic school year may be required in order to align duties with the PK-12 school year. Candidates for the appointment should have or be near completing a doctorate degree in Physical Education Pedagogy (or closely related field) by August 27, 2018. ABD candidates will be considered, however degree must be earned by the first personnel review, no later than May 15, 2019.
Three years teaching experience in U.S. PK-12 schools.
Preferred Qualifications for Position One:
Experience and understanding of standards based teacher preparation (ex: edTPA, InTASC).
Experience with physical education student teaching supervision.
Experience working within a professional development school model.
Experience working in a professional learning community.
Preferred Qualifications for Position Two:
All of preferred qualifications for Position One
Top Rope Management Certification (ex: Professional Climbing Guides Institute, American Climbing Institute, American Mountain Guides Association, professional Climbing Instructor Association)
Minimum certification of Level 2 (Association of Challenge Course Technology) Certification
