The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse English Department seeks a tenure-track assistant professor of English Education in our vibrant department where students in the English Education emphasis constitute half of our total majors. Our new colleague will have primary upper-level teaching responsibilities in English Language Arts pedagogy, adolescent literature, and language study for teachers, with regular assignments in general education literature courses and first-year composition. Other responsibilities include advising and supervising pre-service teachers and administrative duties in the English Education major.
Requirements for this position include:
A Ph.D. in English Education or comparable degree (in hand by 8/27/2018);
Minimum of 3 years English Language Arts teaching experience in U.S. PK-12 schools;
expertise in and ability to teach English Language Arts pedagogy and assessment;
knowledge of current middle and secondary curriculum, pedagogical practices, requirements, technology, and administrative practices appropriate to the English Language Arts; and
evidence of effective teaching;
Additional preferred areas of expertise may include any of the following:
American literature, particularly that of minority writers;
language and linguistics;
multicultural issues in education;
school/community collaboration; and
experience with edTPA (Teacher Performance Assessment).
An interest in participating in study abroad opportunities in China is also desirable.

a commitment to undergraduate education, including first-year composition and general education literature;
a commitment to professional service; and
excellent oral and written communication skills.

This position is affiliated with the School of Education, Professional, and Continuing Education (EPC) and the dean of the EPC will provide feedback regarding hiring and personnel reviews to the department.
School of Education affiliated faculty are expected to be engaged in service and scholarly activities that inform and enhance the work they do with prospective teachers. Some additional work hours outside the academic school year may be required in order to align duties with the PK-12 school year.
