We are pleased to announce an open position on our Desk Services staff for a Residence Hall Desk Supervisor at Haggett Desk. The Desk Supervisor is a collaborative job, working with a strong team of Supervisory leaders to ensure student desk staff are selected, well trained and able to provide excellent customer service for building residents, University staff and guests to the UW campus. Haggett Desk provides housing and mail service to 820 residents, and provides mail and key support to the Haggett Hall Custodial office, Residence Life office and Bay Laurel Catering.

Ensure high-quality customer service is provided to customers, residents, staff and guests.
Interview and recommend the selection of staff.
Plan, document and provide group and individual staff training.
Prepare and provide directions, instructions and updates for staff concerning desk, mail and housing policies and procedures.
Assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct performance evaluations for student staff, recommend performance management action as needed.
Provide accurate information to employees, residents, and campus staff regarding departmental procedures, policies, services, events and activities.
Supervise 8-20 student staff.
Supervise multiple office functions to ensure consistency and continuity.
Coordinate desk functions with the Student Services Office, Facilities Services and Residential Life.
Maintain appropriate files and records, including floor charts, key records, check-ins, checkouts, room and hall changes, no-shows and vacates.
Maintain key inventories and building access that ensure building security and resident safety.
Submit and track work orders for lock changes, key replacements and building maintenance.
Oversee and participate in mail handling activities including sorting, logging, delivery and forwarding of letter mail and parcels.
Prepare and maintain correspondence, reports, forms and other communications necessary for effective desk operations.
Ensure adherence to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines when releasing housing application or student account information to anyone other than the student.
Monitor web content for HFS sites that relate/refer to Desk Services.
Participate in unit, Department and campus events, committees and teams as assigned, including process improvement initiatives.
Provide coverage for other residence hall desks, auxiliary support to other units or related duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications: High school graduation or equivalent and two years of clerical experience, plus one year of experience as an administrative lead/supervisor or equivalent education or experience.
Specific Position Requirements Experience that demonstrates:
Two years of experience working in a fast-paced customer service environment.
Success working alone and as an effective team member.
Success using excellent oral and written communication skills with a diverse college/student population.
Proficiency with PC's including Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook, databases and the Internet.
Bachelor's degree AND two years of successful supervisory, administrative and customer service experience in a related field.
Experience interpreting and communicating complex policies, procedures and agreements.
Direct experience working with residence hall desks and conferences.
One year of experience working in an environment covered by Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Conditions of Employment:
A satisfactory outcome from criminal background verification and professional reference check is required prior to hire.
Willingness to work nights and weekends on occasion.
