Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Clinical Services Representative II for the Department of Dermatology at Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Performs a variety of complex billing and collection duties in support of the Rutgers Medical Group's clinic operations.
Answers patient calls and refers them to nursing and faculty.
Counsels patients with regard to more complex inquiries, payment arrangements, third party payer practices and other issues.
Answers routine and complex inquiries in regard to status of patient billing, insurance payments, and other issues.
Processes referrals and obtains pre-authorizations from insurance companies for patient testing.
Reconciles daily receipts and compiles reports for submission to Rutgers Health Group.
Monitors accuracy of records and assists in auditing of same.
Maintains computer data bases entering changes in demographics, insurance and other information. .
Minimum Education and Experience:
Two years of progressively responsible clerical experience, preferably in a physician office or other medical setting conducting billing and collection and medical insurance activities.
Prior experience accessing and retrieving information from a computer database.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bilingual skills in English/Spanish.
Demonstrated proficiency using computer software for billings and collections and electronic health records.
Demonstrated quantitative orientation and strong background in financial transactions and record keeping.
Familiarity with medical terminology and coding.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a stressful environment while maintaining a professional and customer service oriented demeanor.
Ability to take multiple phone calls and direct them to the proper nurses, physicians or staff.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Position requires standing, walking, use of hands to finger, handle or feel, ability to reach with hands and arms 1/3 of the time; ability to stoop and bend; ability to reach and grasp objects; manual dexterity use of keyboard to enter data and video display terminal to receive and send information and data. Ability to talk or hear up to 2/3 of the time and sitting over 2/3 of the time. Must have clear vision at 20 inches or less (close vision). Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment: Clinical/Laboratory/Office environment. Moderate noise level.
Willingness to work evening hours and flexibility regarding daily work schedule to fill the needs of the practice as required.
