Pratt Institute invites applications for the position of Chairperson of Foundation. Located on a historic 25-acre landscaped campus in the culturally diverse Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, Pratt is an internationally recognized school of art, design, architecture, and information science, which attracts students from diverse cultural and geographic backgrounds. We are committed to developing and sustaining a diverse and inclusive community, and to shaping an environment for teaching, learning, research, creative and professional work that advances this vision.
Since 1939, Pratt's Foundation program has been an essential part of the Institute's art and design curriculum. The Program's mission is two-fold: to prepare students to enter the more specialized professional departments in the Institute, and to broaden and deepen their experience in art and design as a basis and an impetus for lifelong learning and development. Foundation students will go on to major in communications design, industrial design, interior design, fine arts, digital arts and animation, photography, film/video, and art and design education.
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, the Chair of Foundation will provide leadership for the Program, will have a genuine and thoughtful interest in the work of education in the integrated context of Foundation, and will be committed to collaborating with colleagues in the Program and across the Institute to create an environment in which students, faculty and staff all thrive. The Foundation Program serves just under 500 students per year and has a faculty of approximately 50. The Chair also works directly with an Assistant Chair and a small office staff. Pratt recognizes the strength that stems from a diversity of perspectives, ideas, backgrounds, approaches, and experiences. We aspire to continue to grow as a place that always welcomes and encourages individuals of all backgrounds to contribute to and be part of Pratt culture.
