<p><strong>Position Description</strong></p><p>The Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Minnesota invites applications for part-time faculty teaching positions at the level of Adjunct/Associate/[Full] Professor. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in teaching and mentorship, either in the classroom or professional office, along with applied knowledge of contemporary landscape architecture and environmental design practices. In particular, candidates should be able to demonstrate strong credentials related to the policies and design of urban ecological systems; the theory and design of urban public space and integrated infrastructure; and, the programming, design and construction of site-scale projects along with their visual representation.</p><p>Responsibilities will include instruction in graduate or undergraduate courses, including lecture, lab and studio formats. The majority of our courses meet during the day two to three times per week and the candidate must be available to meet during regularly scheduled class time. Candidates may provide instruction in one, or more, landscape architectural subjects, including schematic design and site planning, urban ecological infrastructure, construction technology and methods, and/or digital design and representation techniques. The candidate is also expected to advise students outside of the classroom and hold regularly scheduled office hours. Successful candidates will be encouraged to take advantage of the University’s research support facilities, including library access to a global network of professional and scientific publications, special collections and archives.</p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><p>· Course instruction, including course(s) development and preparation of syllabi, lecture materials, course readings and other instructional materials.</p><p>· Hold regularly scheduled office hours and advise students regarding specific coursework and/or broader academic or career goals.</p><p>· Coordinate with other faculty on learning objectives, deadlines, schedules, etc.</p><p>· Provide regular updates to Department Head regarding course instruction and student progress. </p><p>· <em>Create</em> a welcoming and professional classroom environment for students, faculty, staff.</p><p>· Identify opportunities to integrate diversity in course instruction.</p><p><strong>Reports To</strong></p><p>Head, Department of Landscape Architecture </p><p><strong>Appointment</strong></p><p>· Part-time (actual percentage of appointment determined by number of assigned courses/studios and credit load)</p><p>· One or two semester teaching appointment at the level of Adjunct Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, dependent on qualifications. </p><p>· Anticipated start date is January 11, 2018</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><p>· BLA, MLA, MDes, Ph.D or equivalent professional or post-professional degree in related field.</p><p>· Demonstration of professional expertise in one or more areas professional landscape architectural practice or scholarship.</p><p>· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.</p><p>· Commitment to working collaboratively across departments and in the community.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p><p>· Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and mentorship.</p><p>· Attention to cultural diversity in teaching and/or professional practice and the proven ability to support the University’s commitment to equity and diversity.</p>
