We seek a highly motivated Director of Development to provide leadership, strategic vision, and management of development efforts. The Director of Development works closely with the Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement to identify and develop corporate, community and individual prospects as well as secure a broad range of resources for Virginia Community College System (VCCS), VFCCE, and its individual colleges. This position works across departments to build comprehensive funding proposals to the priorities of the VFCCE.
Managing portfolio of 80 to 100 prospects/donors, with a focus on building and sustaining lasting relationships
Collaborating with fundraising team to create a development plan with supports strategic objectives
Developing and executing donor solicitation strategies, as well as diversify and grow donor base
Ensuring fundraising goals are being met or exceeded
Maintaining accurate development records
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree or equivalent, with extensive experience in fundraising.
Demonstrated expertise in a diversified funding base including annual, major gifts, and planned giving.
Proven success in soliciting and closing major gifts, building and maintaining long-term relationships and partnerships with donors, foundations, corporations and community partners, and considerable experience in managing portfolio of clients.
Proven track record in establishing and meeting strategic goals.
Understanding and appreciation of the VFCCE mission and vision.
Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to project professional competence, leadership capability, collaborative approach, strategic thinking and creative problem solving.
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Strong computer/software skills and knowledge of data base programs, preferably DonorPerfect.
At least 7 years of experience in higher-education advancement.
