The selected candidate will have a 45% (.45 FTE) faculty appointment as Associate Director of the Health Sciences Library.
The Associate Director will be responsible for providing overall leadership and management for day-to-day library operations.
Responsibilities include managing the delivery and enhancement of public and technical services, faculty and staff supervision, coordinating strategic planning activities, overseeing security and space planning, and working closely with the Director on major projects and initiatives.
Specific duties 1.Manage the heads of service in Information and Research Services, Access Services, and Historical and Collections Services. Coordinates with heads of service in the development of annual goals and objectives. 2.Works closely with the Business Officer to ensure that the library implements building and operational efficiencies, especially in the areas of security and space planning. 3.Oversees emergency preparedness for the library. 4.As coordinator of strategic planning activities, works closely with the Director to establish goals, objectives, and strategies for the library's curricular, research, and instruction activities annually. 5.Identifies intra- and extramural funding opportunities and coordinates application to those funding opportunities with appropriate library personnel 6.Provides dynamic management in institutional reporting, statistics, and library assessment activities. 7.Chairs the library's Operations Council 8.Serves as a member of the Administrative Council and participates on other administrative committees as required. 9.Represents the library on other university committees as appropriate, and represents the Director as needed. 10.Contributes to the oversight of internal and external communications, including social media. 11.Assist Director in maintaining positive and productive relationships with and coordinating services for Vidant Medical Center and Eastern Area Health Education Center 12.Other duties as required.

A master's degree in library or information science from an accredited American Library Association program or an international equivalent is required.
Qualifications 1.Minimum four years of progressive experience in library leadership roles that include responsibilities for resource planning, library space planning, and significant supervisory responsibility. 2.Prior experience building relationships and facilitating scholarly collaboration with faculty, students, and researchers. 3.Awareness of current technology trends and library applications is required. 4.Proven ability to form and successfully manage teams and manage projects to fruitful conclusions.

The William E. Laupus Health Sciences Library (Laupus Library) serves as the primary information resource center for the University’s instructional, research, and patient care programs in the health sciences. It also serves as the comprehensive information resource center for health care professionals who practice in northeastern North Carolina. In addition, the Laupus Library serves as a secondary resource for nontechnical health care information for health care consumers in the local community.
