UW Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time (100%) G/L Integrity Analyst. This role has primary responsibility for the technical maintenance for the General Ledgers at UWMC, HMC, NWH and UW Medicine Shared Services, including but not limited to electronic interface imports, balancing and validation; chart of accounts design, updates and maintenance; report writer development and maintenance; and ensuring Accounts / Cost Centers / Budgets and Subsidiary Master files are synchronized from the point of the source systems through the financial reporting tools. UW Medicine has operating expenses budgets of $4.8 billion. As the gatekeeper for all incoming financial transactions, this position identifies unusual transactions and variances and works with operations and accounting staff to research and resolve issues.
This position is directly accountable for ensuring all electronic feeds from subsidiary, feeder or parallel systems can be consistently, timely and accurately delivered to the ledgers, inclusive of related mapping tables for accounts, budgets, objects, sub-objects and other data elements that require translation or integration into the Medical Centers' reporting tools. There are approximately 50 interfaces to the general ledger systems that must be maintained and standardized in the future. This position also ensures that ledger data is delivered, with consistent classification, to the financial reporting tools. In addition, this position serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for general ledger business system process improvement initiatives. Accounting complexity arises from the affiliate relationships and the overall the systems environment.
Under the direction of the G/L Integrity Manager, provide support for the technical maintenance of the general ledgers, including modifications to the chart of accounts and report writers
Work closely with Medical Center Accounting groups to ensure changes in departments, cost centers, ledger accounts and source system data elements, as well as financial reporting requirements are considered and properly reflected in the financial records and reporting
Ensures the integrity of electronic feeds to the general ledgers, inclusive of maintaining appropriate mapping tables for all data elements included in these imports
Ensures that ledger and other activity sourcing the Medical Center financial reporting tools are appropriate synchronized
Provides the initial analytical review of financial transactions to alert accounting and operations to areas where further research is needed
Primary responsibility for validation of import files and supporting databases or other tools
Imports, posts and balances data feeds into the general ledgers
Develops new and updates existing tools (databases and other) to facilitate efficient collection, reporting and posting of transaction data into the general ledgers
Troubleshoots and resolves problems related to the GL and feeder processes / systems
Ensures corrections are processed timely and reflected accurately within the ledger
Serves as a subject matter expert for general ledger and financial reporting-related updates, upgrades, reconfigurations and implementations
Develops and maintains organized technical documentation files of databases, applications and operational procedures
Collaborates with peers design and implementation of standard Accounting policies and practices across the enterprise
Creates and provides monthly GL detail reports and various payroll or other analytical reports in a timely manner
Creates ad hoc reports, queries and other analysis from the various financial systems
Prepare and provide analysis and reports to internal and external auditors, UW Financial Accounting staff and other UW Medicine component entity accounting staff
Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of prospective accounting and financial reporting changes and ensures the shared service policies and procedures are compliant
Represent UW Medicine Accounting on committees or task forces as requested
Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business or related field
Minimum of 5 years experience in accounting with a heavy emphasis on systems and databases
Advanced skill level in using General Ledger and report writer applications as well as supporting software programs, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access
Strong understanding of GAAP and GASB standards as well as strong background in internal controls
Equivalent experience may substitute for degree requirement
Healthcare or academic medical center experience strongly preferred
Record of strong analytical skills being practically applied
