The Department of Nursing in the Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS), Appalachian State University invites applications for one or more full time, tenure-track, nine-month, open faculty rank position(s) available August 1, 2018. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Nursing, the position requires doctoral preparation in nursing or a related discipline. Candidates who are in the dissertation stage of their terminal degree are eligible to apply if all degree requirements will be completed by the date of appointment.

The RN to BSN and MSN programs are taught in online or hybrid formats. The BSN and RN to BSN programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Accreditation will be sought for the MSN program.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities may include teaching in the classroom, clinical settings, or online in any of the degree programs offered in the Department of Nursing. There are no on-line only teaching positions within the Department of Nursing. Teaching may include supervision of capstone projects or thesis advisement. In addition, responsibilities include scholarship yielding publications, service on committees, advising students, assisting with program development, and participation in official activities of the Department, College, and University, among others. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required qualifications for the position include licensure as a registered nurse in North Carolina or a compact state; meeting the North Carolina Board of Nursing’s requirements for nurse educator; an earned terminal degree in nursing or a closely related field by the time of appointment; and a commitment to excellence in teaching and research, compatible with the BCHS mission. Special consideration will be given to individuals who have earned a PhD in Nursing and have a minimum of one year full-time teaching in a baccalaureate or graduate nursing program, experience in online instruction and development, and clinical expertise in medical/ surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, community/behavioral health or critical care. All invited candidates will be asked to give a formal presentation during the campus visit.
The BCHS is the second largest college at Appalachian with approximately 3300 undergraduate and graduate majors served by 150 faculty and staff. The BCHS was established in 2010 by reorganizing and bringing together existing departments and degree programs to meet the growing healthcare needs in North Carolina and beyond.
