State Program Admin Manager (Classified Managerial Plan)
The purpose of the Director of Public Safety position is to lead a comprehensive, proactive, 24/7/365 campus public safety program and security operation in a residential university environment.
Support the University mission, purpose and strategic goals.
Provide a safe and secure environment for the campus community through the management of all campus public safety programs and security operations including emergency planning and response, crime and fire prevention, investigation of major incidents, building access (keys/cards), and parking enforcement.
Primary contact with local law enforcement and emergency personnel.
Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations within the assigned areas of responsibility.
Due to the nature of the work, the Director is required to be on call and generally needs to be accessible to report to campus within a short time frame unless prior arrangements have been made.
Associate or Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Management or related field from an accredited college or university
5 years of experience in public safety, security, facilities and/or operations management in a complex environment with Associate Degree or minimum of 3 years with Bachelor Degree
3 years of supervisory experience in a complex environment
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with people of diverse backgrounds including a sensitivity to their needs and concerns
Strong written and oral communication sufficient to create professional documents, deliver professional presentations and communicate technical ideas
Business technology and software skills sufficient to perform duties and responsibilities of the position
Knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX, National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) courses
Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Management or related field from an accredited college or university.
Demonstrated experience in public safety, security, facilities and/or operations management in a higher education environment
Comprehensive knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX, National Incident Management System (NIMS) and advanced Incident Command System (ICS) courses
Demonstrated experience with staff training and professional development
Demonstrated experience in a unionized work environment
Demonstrated experience with budget development and administration
Demonstrated experience with current security and access control technologies
Demonstrated experience in advanced investigative procedures
Demonstrated ability to motivate, supervise staff fairly & openly, and build a strong staff team
Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and discretion in decision-making which impacts the daily operations of a complex department
