METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, a vibrant and growing public, urban university, is seeking applicants for the position of Women and LGBTQ Student Services Coordinator and Retention Specialist. This is a full-time, probationary position within the Student Development and Programming Department. This position is develop, oversee, and deliver social, education, and cultural LGBTQ, gender and women's programs.
Provide leadership, direction and management of Women's, gender, LGBTQ and cultural programming student services.
Serve as campus expert on LGBTQ, Gender and Women's issues and represent these concerns on University committees, work groups, and task forces.
Provide support and advocacy to underrepresented students particularly women and LGBTQ students.
Provide counseling, mentoring, and advising services. Provide referral services within the university and externally as well.
Develop and implement cultural and social programs in collaboration with the office of the Associate Provost for Student Success.
Maintain current knowledge of university policies, programs and services.
Collaborate with admission cultural liaisons, colleges and other programs through the university to support the recruitment and retention of underrepresented students, primarily women and LGBTQ students.
Educate and inform the university community of the resources available for women and LGBTQ students.
Oversee and run the Women's and LGBTQ Resource Center
Function as a team member of Academic and Student Affairs.
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:
Minimum of three years of experience in student services in higher education.
Demonstrated experience with feminism, gender and LGBTQ issues and the intersection of systems of oppression.
Demonstrated experience with diversity and multicultural issues including knowledge of and/or experience with cross-cultural advising or counseling.
Knowledge of higher education retention strategies.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ culture and history.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of issues affecting women and LGBTQ students as they pursue higher education.
Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory.
Expertise and experience in event planning and student focused programing.
Strong communication (oral, written, intercultural and interpersonal) skills with the ability to bring together diverse perspectives. and
Computer skills including knowledge of word processing, and integrated data systems.
Experience working with and advising student organizations.
Teaching or training experience.
Physical Requirements of the Job: Requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Even though the weights being lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.

Salary: This is a Minnesota State University Association of Administrative and Service Faculty (MSUAASF) Range C position with a salary range of $41,013 (minimum) to $71,038 (maximum). Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) and the MSUAASF organization.
