Postdoctoral Researcher or Senior Postdoctoral Researcher (Physics – ProtoDUNE)
Louisiana State University
Responsibilities include T2K data analysis, perform research and development to upgrade the T2K near detector and contribute to the operation and maintenance of the experiment including involvement in the installation, commissioning and data analysis effort for ProtoDUNE is expected. Additional duties include assisting in the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.
In addition to the above responsibilities a senior postdoctoral researcher is expected to lead T2K data analysis, perform research and development; and supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
Minimum Qualifications – Postdoctoral Researcher:
PhD in experimental particle physics or related disciplines
PhD in experimental particle physics or related disciplines and must have three years of postgraduate experience.
Candidates should have hardware experience, good data analysis and code development skills.
Travel to the experimental sites is expected.
Additional Position Information:
The T2K experiment observed the appearance of electron (anti-)neutrinos in a beam of muon (anti-) neutrinos. These measurements helped determine the neutrino mixing parameter theta-13 and provide, in combination with results from reactor experiments, a first hint for a non-zero CP violation parameter delta. New data and an improved near detector will yield better sensitivity to oscillation and the CP violation parameters.
The DUNE experiment foresees to send a neutrino beam originating at Fermilab towards four 10kt LAr detectors located underground in the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in South Dakota. ProtoDUNE is a 700t single-phase LAr prototype detector for DUNE, which will collect calibration data samples for the future DUNE detectors. The LSU group is involved in hardware, software and coordination of ProtoDUNE.

LSU is the flagship institution of the state of Louisiana and is one of only 30 universities nationwide holding land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant status.
LSU was founded by the Louisiana General Assembly in 1853 under the name Louisiana State Seminary of Learning and Military Academy and was located near Pineville, La., with the first session beginning on Jan. 2, 1860. Since that time, LSU ...has served the people of Louisiana, the region, the nation, and the world through extensive, multipurpose programs encompassing instruction, research, and public service. The University brings in more than $150 million annually in outside research grants and contracts, a significant factor for the Louisiana economy.
LSU is located on more than 2,000 acres and is known for the 1,200 large oak trees, valued at over $50 million. The campus landscaping was called “a botanical joy” in its listing among the 20 best campuses in America in Thomas Gaines’s The Campus as a Work of Art. LSU homes two Indian Mounds that were created by Native Americans more than 5,000 years ago and functioned as territorial markers or symbols of group identity. In 1999, the mounds were placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
LSU Flagship 2020
LSU represents the largest institution of higher education in the state of Louisiana and is the only public university in the state to be designated a Carnegie Research University with Very High Research Activity. Among a handful of distinguished universities to enjoy land, sea, and space grant status, LSU offers vital research opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students as it transforms new technology into enterprise and lends expertise to solve endemic problems. Guided by the foundation of the National Flagship Agenda, Flagship 2020 is focused on the goals of learning, discovery, diversity, and engagement. Among institutions of higher education, LSU is uniquely situated to provide a rich educational experience. Our success as the Flagship campus has been attained not only by harnessing the intellectual capital of our faculty and students, but also by exploiting the geographic and cultural capital found only in Louisiana.
