While VMC Department of Pharmacy has enjoyed a progressive and comprehensive pharmacy presence for many years, we too were moved by the call from ASHP and other industry leaders to prepare for the future. Our model has evolved over time to provide clinical resources to the front line for patients and healthcare providers. Pharmacists practice in both unit-based clinical pharmacy models and service based models. These teams, comprised of both pharmacists and technicians, are supported by a dynamic central pharmacy team responsible for production of sterile products, inpatient chemotherapy, cart fills, inventory and automation. Most drug distribution is automated, using Robot-RX, medication carousels and unit-based automated dispensing cabinets.
