The Senior Healthcare Economics Analyst will research and investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data. This individual will provide management with statistical findings and conclusions, and identify potential areas for medical cost improvements and alternative pricing strategies. The Healthcare Economics team is within UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement, Insurance Solutions, and will provide support for the pricing of AARP Medicare Supplement plans. Positions in this function research and investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data. Provides management with statistical findings and conclusions. Identifies potential areas for medical cost improvements and alternative pricing strategies. Provides data in support of actuarial, financial and utilization analyses.Primary Responsibilities:Claims cost analysis and data analysis Evaluate impact of business and environmental changes on our historical/projected claims Identify opportunities to reduce future claim costs Potential for dashboard design and development Ad hoc analysis and data mining Presentation of results Generally work is self - directed and not prescribed Works with less structured, more complex issues Serves as a resource to others
Required Qualifications:Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Business/Data Analytics, Data Science or similar degree Two or more years of experience working in a corporate environment Two or more years' experience in data manipulation, analysis, and reporting Strong analytical skills and evidence of creative, proactive problem solving At least an intermediate level of proficiency working with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, calculations, pivot tables, charts, graphs, etc. Strong commitment to quality and accuracy Motivated to learn and stretch beyond comfort zone Effective verbal and written communication Ability to effectively manage multiple prioritiesPreferred Qualifications:Experience in the healthcare insurance industry Experience with healthcare claims data and medical codes At least a basic level of proficiency with MS Word and Access Beginner level proficiency with SQL, SAS and / or other statistical programs Experience working with Tableau a plusCareers at UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement.The Boomer generation is the fastest growing market segment in health care.
