The Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine is the second largest Department in the School. In addition to the large number of faculty and staff, the Department encompasses 16 academic division/sections determined by clinical subspecialty, such as pediatric cardiology, pediatric endocrinology, neonatology, general Pediatrics/primary care, adolescent medicine, etc.
The Department of Pediatrics has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH COORDINATOR. The Research Coordinator will provide key support to multiple clinical researchers from UW/CHRMC/FHCRC, assist with the institutional approval process and the design, and assist with the implementation and maintenance of clinical research protocols. Additionally, the research coordinator will work with many investigators and their research staff in the initial stages of setting up a new clinical research study.
This position involves working with several investigators at a time with projects in different stages of development/implementation. Research coordination is an integral part of the management, organization, and processing of research data. This position supports the mission of the University of Washington.
Duties are divided as follows: 1. Independently develop protocol specific data collection tools and standard operating procedures to ensure quality data that correlates with research objectives (20%) 2. Obtain and maintain IRB approval for multiple investigators. The Research Coordinator will be responsible for drafting applications for genetic studies, repositories, minimal risk and standard applications for UW, CHRMC FHCRC and other institution IRBs (30%) 3. Oversee regulatory, budgetary, contractual, and all other aspects of protocol implementation, ensuring compliance with applicable institutional /departmental guidelines, federal regulations and principles of Good Clinical Practice. (10%) 4. Design, document and implement procedures for quality assurance to evaluate protocol compliance, subject safety and validate research data quality (20%) 5. Subject recruitment and enrollment (20%)
Specific Job Duties Include:
Work collaboratively with individual investigators and study teams at UW and collaborating institutions to develop study protocols
Determine recruitment and specimen collection logistics
Develop data collection instruments
Prepare and submit IRB applications
Document protocol changes
Assist in the preparation of grant applications and study budgets.
Develop standard operating procedures for individual studies and tracking of studies within the NWIGM
BA/BS in biological sciences or health related field or equivalent work experience.
2-4 years of clinical research coordination experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Clinical genetics and/or pediatric experience.
MHA, MPH, MA in biological sciences or health related field.
