Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) seeks qualified ambitious senior engineers with aptitude for solving complex problems through application of advanced research and development techniques. Serves as the technical specialist and mentor for the Lighting and Infrastructure Technology Group in the measurement and application of light in outdoor environments. Leads the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for investigation of light and its impact on humans, safety, and the environment. Keeps abreast of new scientific methods and developments in the lighting and associated industries for the purpose of recommending changes in emphasis of programs or new programs.
Leading a group of talented researchers in a supervisory capacity – plans, develops, coordinates, and directs a number of significant and critical projects. This position requires a flexible individual, able to supervise projects and project teams as well as handle fluctuating work requirements, cycles of field and/or office work, and carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved cutting-edge techniques.

-Doctorate/terminal degree with some experience. An exception may be granted for individuals with lesser degree and substantial related experience. -Expert in transportation Human Factors with significant direct and relevant experience, -A proven track record for obtaining funding and project implementations, -Demonstrated experience leading a group of skilled engineers and technicians, -Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills, -Thorough understanding of experimental methods and statistics, -The willingness to work in a fast-paced flexible research environment.
