University of Maryland Baltimore is currently seeking a Laboratory Research Specialist to join the Division of Cardiac Surgery. The research specialist will participate in multiple NIH funded projects related to cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary artificial and biohybrid organs. The research team consists of engineers, clinicians, medical residents, biological scientists and students.
**This is a FULL-TIME, CONTRACTUAL position**

Performs biological research activities such as: flow cytometry analysis, protein and cellular analyses of blood and cellular injury by blood contacting medical devices.
Assists in development of projects, design and fabrication of experimental apparatus necessary to conduct current research projects.
Compiles, analyzes, and interprets research data and/or test information and research techniques; and records/reports results.
May assist with the preparation of manuscripts, scientific illustrations, journal articles and grant proposals.
Education: Bachelors in biology, biochemistry, physiology, immunology and related fields. PhD or MD degree strongly preferred.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of experience includes study of blood, myocardial tissue and blood vessels with at least (2) years in cardiac research .
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Hands-on experience with instruments and devices, and skills and experience with molecular biology, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and imaging would be valuable.
