Our Information Technologies has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Database Developer. Responsibilities include:
MAINTAIN UW BOTHELL ENTERPRISE DATABASE PORTFOLIO
Work with data owners, product owners, and data stewards to achieve data accuracy and process requirement goals for all internal and external users and create data management strategies.
Provide data integrations points that result in timely, high quality data, for various existing systems. Regular collaboration with UW-IT, software vendors and contractors, as well as campus internal users to gather requirements and impact analysis of data points among in-house and purchased systems.
Integration and cleaning of data from a variety of sources and ensure that agreed-upon definitions and processes are used. Work may require supporting new or improved data collection processes. This includes building original queries in SQL/R, transforming data, conducting data integrity procedures, and documenting both process and definitions.
Design, develop, and implement ETL procedures for intake of data from both internal and external sources.
Implement security measures to safeguard information against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.
Ensure implementation of ETL process and data architecture are properly functioning from sources.
CREATES, AND SUPPORT DATABASES FOR UW BOTHELL
Support the development and documentation of databases intended to serve UW Bothell:
Work across departments to gather requirements and determine project scope and limitations.
Design, develop and implement database systems based on customer requirements.
Optimize database systems for performance efficiency.
Prepare design specifications and functional documentations for assigned database projects.
Participate in space management and capacity planning for database systems.
Develop database tables and dictionaries.
Participate in database design and architecture to support application development projects.
Assist in fine-tuning search queries and designing tables, views, indexes.
Develop, maintain and enforce data security policies. Maintain data infrastructure documentation.
Participate in testing processes through unit testing and bug fixes. Maintain code and version control system.
INCREASE EFFICIENCY AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF EXISTING WORK PRODUCTS
Deliver high quality related outcomes including ETL processes, data warehouse designs and data system enhancements in accordance with existing standards and guidelines.
Proactively monitor database systems ensuring availability and performance. Troubleshoot and resolve database issues.
Ensure all the data complies with legal regulations.
Make sure the information is protected and backed-up.
Monitor database performance.
Improve the technology used.
Increase knowledge and skills related to reporting and data management, with the goal of increasing efficiency and improving the quality of existing work products.
Other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Management Information Systems or a related field OR equivalent experience in a related field is required.
At least 6+ years' experience working in an environment utilizing RDBMS and related technologies;
C# / ASP.NET; Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS; and database design, development and data modeling.
Project management experience preferably in Agile development and management.
Experience in building and maintaining data transformations using SQL.
Hands-on experience with database performance, security and integrity.
Knowledge of data modeling standards and best practices.
Exposure to data hygiene routines and models.
Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and performance tune SQL queries, stored procedures, packages and functions.
Ability to identify problems, and effectively communicate solutions to peers and management.
Ability to work with a diverse constituency.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
This position requires flexible work schedule and the ability to work some evenings and/or weekends.
