Organization Overview: Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 19,100 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners. It provides top quality publications, training programs, services, and products designed to enhance the skills and performance of those responsible for government finance policy and management. The association is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, with an office in Washington, D.C.
It is the responsibility of the center to handle all logistics and marketing for the association’s training programs– including the annual conference (typical attendance of 7,000+ pp), monthly national training seminars held across the United States, webinars, and various association meetings. Through marketing and advertising, the center promotes membership in the association, participation in the annual conference, training events, publications, and the association’s awards programs. This job would assist in all areas.
Provide administrative support including formatting letters, News Releases, e-mail blasts, and reports; printing labels; responding to e-mails; answering phones; maintaining calendar of events; filing; and assist with setting up for in-house training events
Maintain contact databases and spreadsheets
Organize training and state/provincial association shipments as needed
Research vendor leads for annual conference
Process training and conference registrations as needed
Participate in other projects as needed
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline requiring excellent verbal and written communication skills
Three or more years of experience working in an office environment; association experience is a plus
Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access are needed; iMIS database management experience is a plus; experience with an e-mail marketing system is a plus
Strong typing skills (a minimum of 65 works per minute), organizational management, and attention to detail are required
Ideal candidate will exercise initiative, time management, sound judgment, and work cooperatively with others to accomplish objectives
