THE OPPORTUNITY CEHD is recruiting a Director of Marketing and Communications for the Dean’s Office. This role leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic communications and marketing team to strengthen the visibility, stature, and reputation of the college and actively position it with its key constituents and critical audiences. Portfolio areas include integrated planning and coordination, development and implantation of a communications and marketing plan, targeted marketing, digital strategy, social media, publications development, and brand management for a multifaceted college in a major institution.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES The Director of Marketing and Communications will work closely with the dean, chief of operations, associate deans, department heads, and communications staff in the Dean's Office and the college to develop and execute annual strategic plans and calendars; develop communications and marketing plans in collaboration with internal undergraduate and graduate education, department heads, research center directors and development. The Director manages the implementation, integration and coordination of branding/identity and marketing projects, including collateral generation, writing, editing and proofreading, social media, design, electronic media development with scrupulous attention to timelines, deadlines, and CEHD's branding and positioning guidelines. She/he establishes and maintains consumer research of target audiences and maintains a dynamic analytics program determining success of all CEHD communication and marketing initiatives.
The Director will establish a reputation management campaign for CEHD to enhance student and faculty recruitment. She/he will oversee the development of marketing collateral for all programs (Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD as well as graduate certificate and non-degree programs) as well as work in conjunction with, associate deans, department chairs and research center directors on developing and executing marketing strategies. The Director will work to enhance the reputation of the college's education, research and external engagement efforts. She/he will create a strategic plan for developing and updating the structure and content of CEHD electronic media. The Director will plan, execute, and measure the success of communication and marketing initiatives for the college, including but not limited to website performance, search marketing initiatives and valuation of services to key CEHD stakeholders. The Communications and Marketing unit within CEHD provides services to the Dean’s office, departments and research centers regularly monitoring the quality and timeliness of service.
The Director will be responsible for managing the CEHD Communications and Marketing team. She/he will initiate new processes for data collection that will guide the Dean's Office with regard to necessary communication and marketing techniques to enhance CEHD reputation, branding, communication, and marketing and recruitment efforts. The Director manages the annual Communications and Marketing finances to ensure financial sustainability.
Bachelor’s degree required in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field strongly preferred or non-communication related degree with additional two years of professional communications experience.
Eight years of progressive responsibility in communications, including significant management experience. Non-communications degree individuals must have ten years of progressive responsibility in communications.
Knowledge of evolving marketing and communications industry trends required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to establish instant credibility, both internally and externally, results in driving growth and success against metrics. Must have the ability to “tell a story” results in influence, informing, engagement and a return on marketing investment.
Minimum of eight years of prior work experience preferred in marketing and communications. Experience in developing and executing effective communications and marketing strategies is critical. A self-motivated, detail-oriented professional who possesses the ability to think strategically and can interact professionally to develop relationships with a diverse range of constituencies.
Excellent organizational skills, strong customer service orientation, and ability to work effectively in an independent and interdependent setting.
Leadership capacity to effectively manage a team; handle multiple projects under tight deadlines; and to be able to work well in a complex organization with a focus on achieving a common goal.
Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field strongly preferred.
Extensive experience in developing strategic marketing and communications plans, calendar and successful implementation of the plans.
Communications and marketing experience preferably in a competitive higher education, non-profit, or agency setting.
Managing experience of an 8 person or more team of communicators and marketers.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.) and CRM tools, such as Salesforce.com
Proficient working with social and mobile digital consumer facing technology and having the knowledge and user experience to define and integrate marketing applications with members across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Four Square, etc.
