The Marketing & Community Engagement team at McMaster University's DeGroote School of Business is focused on advancing the School's goals through strategic marketing, communications, and alumni and community engagement efforts that build audience awareness and shape perceptions of the DeGroote brand.
Responsible for providing high quality meaningful opportunities for stakeholders such as alumni, donors, media, community and government, to engage with and maintain positive relationships with faculty, students and the University, all with the goal of maximizing reputation, relationships and revenue for the University. As a key member of the University Advancement team, this position is responsible for making a positive commitment to University Advancement’s mission, vision and values, and principles: Integrity, Quality, Respect, Service, Strategy and Teamwork. Due to the nature of this position some evening and week-end work as well as some travel will be required.
Purpose and Key Functions:
Responsible for creating and implementing a strategic engagement plan for building relationships between community stakeholders and the University.
Responsible for implementing donor stewardship plans and obligations when they include an event or University engagement element.
Develop strong working relationships with key contacts and stakeholders within the internal and external community for the purpose of promoting the activities and programs of the department or area.
Support the programs and activities of the McMaster Alumni Association and ensure compliance with relevant association policies and practices.
Develop strategies to identify and cultivate potential relationships with a variety of stakeholders and build face-face relationships with them.
Attention to detail is required to create and produce printed materials, both conventional and electronic, to be distributed to stakeholders.
Develop content and messaging directed towards key strategic audiences.
Represent the department or faculty through correspondence, both paper, digital and electronic, phone and in-person contact.
Develop and deliver presentations and represent the department or faculty in various public-speaking environments.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study. A McMaster University degree is an asset.
Requires 3 years of relevant experience.
Expert communication and presentation skills
Experience developing, promoting, and executing events
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Experience with a wide range of stakeholders including academics, donors, alumni, senior executives, and high-profile guests
High level of attention to detail
This role's primary focus will be on alumni and community engagement activities, including the development and execution of events. Frequent evening and weekend work will be required, as will some local travel.
Psychometric testing & skills testing will be a part of the interview process.
