As a seasoned, experienced professional in K-14 academic preparation, independently works with assigned institutions and organizations to plan and implement a wide range of academic preparation programming. Develops and maintains program visibility in schools. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with K-14 and higher education institutions and / or community entities. Develops collaborative relationships with other college-going programs.
Under the general supervision of the GEAR UP Lead Family Involvement Coordinator, the Family Involvement Coordinator will participate in efforts to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged and/or low-income students who attain eligibility and competitiveness for admission to a four-year university. The Family Involvement Coordinator will provide parent educational and outreach services designed to motivate parents of middle school and/or high school students to prepare academically for higher education, including; advising on college preparation, conducting parent workshops, and mobilizing and training parents to promote a college-going culture at assigned schools.

As a member of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Educational Partnership Center (EPC) provides an array of school centered and student centered activities for students, parents, faculty and community members across the Monterey Bay and Silicon Valley/San Jose regions to support students on the college-going pathway. The EPC coordinates new and long-standing student academic preparation efforts of the University of California, Santa Cruz with the goal of increasing access and opportunity to postsecondary education for students across our service area. The EPC provides support to faculty, staff and outreach groups to work collaboratively with schools, universities and community colleges to promote an educational pipeline for success for all students.
The GEAR UP project, under the umbrella of the EPC, serves under-represented, low-income students from the Pajaro Valley region and Monterey County with the goal of increasing cohort students' participation rate in post-secondary education.
This is a contract position expected to last for at least one year. The primary work location will be at designated secondary school site(s) in Monterey or Santa Cruz Counties.
Bachelor's degree in related area.
Strong knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population.
Knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
Knowledge of issues facing low-income, first generation youth and/or their families.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, parents, and community contacts.
