THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY within the Division of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego (http://chemistry.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and invites applications for the Dean's Excellence search, which includes a tenured or tenure-track faculty position (at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor) in physical chemistry, broadly defined. Areas of interest include biophysical chemistry, environmental/atmospheric chemistry, nanomaterials, quantum molecular science, and statistical mechanics, amongst others. All positions are subject to availability of funding.
Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field and demonstrated potential for a recognized program of excellence in both teaching and research. In addition, successful candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education. A successful candidate must have a well-articulated plan of contributing to programs that increase access and success of underrepresented students and faculty in the sciences. We especially welcome candidates who have already benefited from, contributed to, or created such programs. A successful candidate will also have served as a role model in mentoring others, with a commitment to helping shape and expand the University's diversity initiatives (http://diversity.ucsd.edu/). Teaching in general or physical chemistry, and related topics, will be expected. Ideally, the candidates would have skills and interest in teaching lab and lecture courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
