General Purpose: Under the general direction of and reporting to the Operations Manager, responsible for providing comprehensive financial operations support for the Yale University Press (YUP) business Office. Serves as main liaison between YUP employees and Yale systems support team to provide and monitor access as appropriate. Serves as subject matter expert for two critical department functions - YUP Escheat reporting and YUP 1099 reporting. Works directly with Principal Investigators (PIs) to provide timely review of grant activity. Works closely with Operations Manager to assist in preparing and reviewing financial statements, budgets and reforecasts. Provide support for and act as back-up for Cost Accounting duties of Accounting Manager.
Required Education and Experience: Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school-level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate’s degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Strongly and consistently demonstrated ability to manage details in an organized manner with a keen sensitivity to completing tasks using best practices or other productive approaches.
Strongly demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision and set priorities that consistently meet deadlines and are in sync with other department priorities.
Strongly denominated interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
Strongly demonstrated ability to identify and solve complicated problems with minimum oversight, especially cost accounting issues when appropriate. Strongly demonstrated budgeting and financial analysis and accounting skills. Keen attention to detail.
Proficient in Excel skills including ability to develop and maintain pivot tables.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Experience in a publishing, manufacturing or production environment. Previous cost & inventory accounting, fund accounting and intercompany accounting experience. Prefer experience developing macros in Excel.
