Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) is seeking a Senior Business Systems Analyst who--as a member of the Administrative Systems, College, and Athletics practice--will play a key role in defining highly-visible projects that serve the faculty, staff, and students of Harvard University. The Senior Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, supporting quality assurance activities and user acceptance testing, and will work closely with technologists and academic department product owners to meet project goals. The position performs and executes all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle, including requirements definition and refinement, solution design, quality assurance, and ongoing production support.
The key responsibilities for this role include the following:
Conduct interviews and facilitate workshops to gather and analyze the need for new or enhanced functionality within new or existing systems in the portfolio.
Identify workflow improvements and propose solutions for new or existing systems by engaging our partners, system users, and vendors.
Create user stories, use cases, and business requirements documents to support application development, revisiting and revising previously-gathered requirements as needed.
Capture and document change requests, out-of-scope requests, and bugs.
Collaborate with project managers to develop and refine project plans and to manage communication to internal and external project team members, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Identify opportunities to improve client applications and internal technical infrastructure.
Provide feedback on application user interfaces.
Create and maintain test plans from requirements and design documents.
Design and execute manual test scripts to test features and defect fixes according to process: record test results, identify, reproduce, and report defects.
Conduct reviews with developers and quality assurance analysts to ensure business requirements are being met.
Work within a set release schedule and coordinate with vendors or other HUIT teams, as necessary, to meet deadlines.
Identify and communicate project risks to project manager.
Analyze and research data requests.
Assist the service desk in the documentation of user procedures.
Define and promote standards in business analysis practice and create new or improve existing business requirements documents, templates, and procedures and support their use and reference by colleagues.
Participate in relevant business analysis communities of practice to promote and support growth in business analysis practice across the organization.
Participate in relevant quality assurance communities of practice to promote and support growth in quality assurance testing practice across the organization.
Participate in relevant user experience design working groups to promote and support integration of UX concepts in business analysis activities.

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role
Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
Minimum of 8 years' experience performing business systems analysis in a technical, academic, or software development environment
Minimum of 3 years' experience performing or supporting quality assurance and user acceptance testing in a software development environment
The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:
Demonstrated ability to translate business problems into technical solutions
Familiarity with quality assurance testing tools and methodologies
Ability to create, maintain, and execute complex test scripts, either manual or automated in nature
Experience utilizing various modes of user interaction to gather requirements: one-on-one interviews, small group sessions, large workshops, etc.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Familiarity with custom development processes and vended product implementation processes
Excellent relationship-building skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Superb organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to manage challenging personalities, balance competing agendas, and navigate a complex political landscape
