The Access Services Manager leads the delivery of access services to library users at both campuses, ensuring consistency and operational effectiveness throughout the University Libraries. This position assumes responsibility for coordinating all policies and procedures for circulation services and statistics, print and digital course reserves, interlibrary loans, and access to library spaces, materials, and equipment. The Manager, Access Services is the University Libraries' primary liaison to the Facilities Management and Campus Security departments, ensuring that the Libraries' facilities are clean, safe, and accessible. This position supervises directly or through subordinates eight employees and approximately 50-70 student workers who provide access services in the Charles Willard Coe Library and the J. Thomas McCarthy Library.
Takes the lead in all aspects of access services for both campuses, including long-range planning, budget, and policy recommendations, for review by the Director of Libraries.
Establishes consistent policies and procedures for circulation services and statistics, course reserves and e-reserves, interlibrary loan services, and general user services across both campus libraries.
Works collaboratively with librarians, other access services staff, and student workers on the management of physical spaces and collections.
Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises access services staff for both libraries.
Assumes oversight responsibility for hiring, training, and evaluating students performing access services functions in the libraries.
Generates reports and modifies circulation parameters including circulation rules, loan periods, etc. in ILS.
Collects and analyzes circulation statistics for assessment of library services.
Assesses current services and identifies improvements by use of user data and national academic library trends.
In collaboration with the Associate Director, librarians, and technical services staff, leads the evaluation and recommendation of new tools, services, and processes for access services, including keeping abreast of updates and changes to the circulation module of the online integrated library system (Sierra).
Plays a key role in maintaining the security of the Libraries, in collaboration with the Campus Security and Facilities Management departments, and other departments housed in the Libraries.
Represents the MSMU Libraries in user groups and conferences related to areas of primary responsibility.
Collaborate with, and support, librarians and staff at both campus libraries to ensure optimal service is given to all members of the MSMU community.
Weekends and evenings may be required.
Run reports, analyze operations, and create summaries for annual reports.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Libraries.
Knowledge of library access services processes and procedures, including circulation services, integrated library systems, interlibrary loan, collection management, stacks maintenance, and collection analysis.
Knowledge of integrated library systems and automated circulation systems.
Familiarity with user experience trends in academic libraries.
Familiarity with the ALA Code of Ethics and copyright and open access best practices as they relate to academic libraries.
Knowledge of work-study programs in higher education desired.

Engaging and effective leadership skills, a passion for working with students, interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to motivate others and work effectively in a team environment is required.
The position requires a strong customer service orientation as well as a passion for operational effectiveness.

Ability to enhance system capabilities in various modules of ILS required. Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
English comprehension and communication proficiency required; Spanish or another second language desired.
Demonstrated ability to be flexible, adapt, and learn new skills.
Ability to work well with diverse students and faculty and with non-traditional students.
Use of library technologies such as online cataloging systems, databases, digital collaboration tools, and Microsoft Office required. Preferred: OCLC, project management software, advanced scheduling software.
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science at an accredited college or university required.
Graduate or undergraduate coursework in business, computer science, mathematics, or information science preferred.
Minimum five years of experience in access services at an academic library, preferably in a supervisory role.
Experience with assessing services in an academic library required.
Experience analyzing and improving access services operations and workflows required.
Experience enhancing system capabilities in various modules of ILS required.
Experience using advanced scheduling software for large numbers of employees required.
Experience supervising and leading teams of student employees required; experience supervising staff preferred.
Experience with collection maintenance in an academic library required.
Experience leading project teams of cross-functional individuals required.
